Update
July 21st:
I wish to thank the voters of Cherokee County who have elected me to serve on the Board of Education for the next four years. The greatest compliment one can receive is to be entrusted with the future of children by their parents, and I am honored that you have selected me. I will endeavor to live up to that considerable responsibility by striving to achieve my stated goals, which are listed below in the campaign information provided here.
I also extend my gratitude to those who aided in my election. To those who supported me in any number of ways I am truly indebted.
My term begins in January of 2009, but I will be diligent in the coming months to familiarize myself with the School Board and its activities. Please feel free to contact me with the information listed on this web site. I look forward to meeting the challenge ahead, and, again, thank you for your votes and support.

Kim Cochran is running for the Cherokee County Board of Education in Post 7. If elected, she will serve the community by promoting excellence in Cherokee county schools, communicating taxpayer needs and opinions, encouraging fiscally conservative policies, and providing educator knowledge and background as a board member to aid in voting on school policies and funding. Currently, no other school board member or candidate for a post has worked in Elementary or Secondary education as a teacher. In bringing her experience to the post, Kim supports accountability for the board as well as local control of schools.
Cochran, a certified high school teacher, is a homemaker and mom that lives in the Free Home community of East Cherokee. She has taught English at both Etowah and Creekview High Schools in Cherokee and is a member of the Cherokee GOP. Cochran is a former member of the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta, a service organization; during that time, she worked on the Publications and Public Relations Committees and served as editor of the League newsletter Cadence. Additionally, she is a former volunteer for Congressman John Linder and on various other Republican campaigns.
Kim has dedicated herself to education, both in her own learning and by teaching. A product of public elementary and secondary schools, Kim then attended Young Harris and Agnes Scott Colleges, both of which she graduated from Summa Cum Laude. At those institutions, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Theta Kappa, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, all nationally recognized honor societies. As a teacher, Cochran received two Recognition of Excellence Awards from Educational Testing Services and has subsequently been approved as a scorer for the S.A.T. as well as other tests through E.T.S. She is currently writing her thesis for her Master’s Degree in English Literature, which she has been pursuing part-time since 2006 from Georgia State University.
Currently, Kim’s occupation is that of a full-time mom and homemaker. She and her husband Nate welcomed their son Noah in the summer of 2007. Nate has a law practice, N. Cochran Attorneys at Law, in downtown Canton. They are members of Cumming First United Methodist Church. Kim and Nate have attended Discipleship Bible Studies there, and Kim is a member of the church’s Intercessory Prayer Ministry.
